When do you shoot Engagement Sessions
Since I'm shooting weddings on most weekends I try to schedule engagement sessions
on weekday evenings. I like to get started about 2 hours before sunset to take advantage
of the romantic light at that time of day. I recommend that you take a half or full
day off work so that you’ll have time to get home, refresh, and make a special time
out of the session. There may be a weekend day open in any given month depending
on our schedule. Get in touch with us to coordinate something.
Where should we have our session?
I have a number of favorite urban areas like Ybor City, Downtown Tampa or Bayshore
Blvd. Beaches are always beautiful, as well as college campuses and local parks.
I’m also a huge advocate of planning a totally personal and unique shoot with you.
You may choose to have your session at the location of your first date or the proposal.
You may have a boat, a favorite neighborhood, or local park where you spend a lot
of time. Perhaps one of these deeply personal places could work for you. See some
of our other engagement posts for ideas.
What should we wear?
Dress COMFORTABLY and as casually or as dressy as you desire. We’ll be walking,
sitting, and fairly active so keep that in mind. Jeans are always a safe bet. Dresses
look great and have a lot of personality. Short skirts can be tough to shoot sitting
in but it’s workable. If you love how you look and feel you should be fine. I’m
not a fan of matching identically but coordinating color schemes are great. Just
keep in mind the location when choosing your outfits.
What else should we bring?
Have some fun. You could bring a PROP or some item that is unique to you two. Pinterest
is a great place to get ideas. I’ve worked with frisbees, balloons, umbrellas, pets,
bicycles, wigs, a trumpet, a clown nose, grandma's red couch you name it. Please
don’t force it but if something inspired comes to mind then bring it along!
What else can we do?
The conversation usually starts with, “…so I saw a really cute [insert: blog post,
photo, save the date, pinterest thingy] a while ago that had the bride and groom
holding [insert: balloons, chalk boards, umbrellas, prop du jour] and thought we
could do that.” The short answer is yes, we can do exactly what you saw another
couple do on their session. I want record images of you two having fun and loving
one another and if something has inspired you then I want to know.
How about Animals?
I love animals and I often shoot with a couple's animals. Keep in mind that most
animals are not that cooperative so the shot you saw on pinterest that you loved
may not always be possible. Also make sure to make arrangements to have someone
there to handle the animals or take them home once we complete their part of the
How long till we see our photos?
It typically takes about 2 weeks but it can sometimes take a little longer depending
on the time of year and my work load.
